Free Online Courses Offered by Major Universities

Open Online Courses Offered by Major Universities

Many major universities have opened up some of their courses to the public, providing their materials and curriculum free of charge. While you will not earn a degree, not be able to claim class credits for taking classes in this manner, they are an invaluable way to acquire knowledge from some of the most prestigious schools out there. Whether you want to brush up on your current knowledge, or simply gain access to the materials that these schools offer their matriculated students, these free courses are a valuable tool for anyone who may not normally have access to these schools. You may not have direct access to their professors or be able to participate in the discussions, but the knowledge they offer their students is now available for all to peruse. As more universities add core classes to their online offerings, we will be adding them to the list.

Carnegie Mellon University: CMU Open Learning Initiative

Johns Hopkins University: JHSPHOPEN Courseware

MIT Courses: MIT Open Courseware

Stanford University: Stanford on iTunes U

University of California – Berkeley: Berkeley at Webcast.berkeley

University of Notre Dame: Notre Dame OpenCourseWare

Utah State University: USU OpenCourseWare

Yale University: Open Yale

Please remember that these courses are offered by these educational institutions for your benefit and are not considered eligible for credit or degree completion. They are, however, an incredible resource for those already in these fields, or currently studying (or curious about) these topics, and they are free and well organized.
